Aqueduct Ensemble have announced their debut album – “Improvisations On An Apricot”. The ensemble’s core is a collaborative project between Ohio-based Keith Freund (Lejsovka & Freund and Trouble Books) and his neighbour Stu, a piano tuner and professional pianist. Reflecting on the record Freund recounts – ”I floated the idea to collaborate on a sort of 70s/80s ECM kinda vibe, and soon started bringing my laptop and a couple microphones over to his house to collect his improvisations and have him add to pieces I had started. Other friends from the neighbourhood dropped by to add parts here and there as well”.

Aquarium or Akvarium (Russian: Аквариум) is a Russian rock group formed in Leningrad, USSR (now Saint Petersburg, Russia) in 1972. The band had many member changes over its 40-year history, and at the end the only remaining original member was lead singer and founder Boris Grebenshchikov, also colloquially known as BG after his initials. He is often called as ‘Grandfather of Russian Rock’. Aquarium were strongly influenced by Western rock music as well as by new wave and reggae artists. This was reflected in the band’s often complex compositions and wide-ranging lyric themes, even including references to Celtic and Indian cultures.

It’s the first in a series of records focusing on the soundtrack work by Sascha Ring, who has been making music for film and television since 2008. To launch Apparat Soundtracks, Ring and his collaborator Philipp Thimm re-edited and remixed the score they composed for Mario Martone’s 2018 film Capri-Revolution. (Ring also appeared in the movie, which focused on the poet Giacomo Leopardi.)

Apparat – LP5 (2019)
FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/44,1 kHz | Time – 44:26 minutes | 471 MB | Genre: Electronic
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front Cover | © Mute
LP5 is Apparat’s first release since 2013’s Krieg und Frieden (Music for Theatre), and follows two studio albums, II and III (Mute / Monkeytown) by Moderat, the trio he founded with Modeselektor’s Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary. Sublime and delicate, the album finds greatness in small things and in unexpected twists; it joins musical fragments together and glows from the cracks in between. For Ring, it is also a document of artistic insight and autonomy. “I was only able to make the record this way because Moderat exists,” he says. “Having a huge stage with Moderat gave me a setting for grand gestures and meant I could unburden Apparat from these aspirations. I don’t have to write big pop hymns here; I can just immerse myself in the details and the structures.” Still hymnic, LP5 doesn’t rely on dramatic gestures and theatrical amplification, instead it lives off delicately sculpted sounds crackling alongside filigree beeping and twitching. Like previous Apparat albums, the new release sees Sascha Ring collaborate with cellist Philipp Thimm and on the album you can also hear trombone, trumpet and saxophone, a harp, a double bass and other strings. Tracks were developed over endless group improvisations and lavish orchestral sessions – some of these sessions are only apparent in the final mix as fluttering echoes, just barely noticeable. The album was recorded in Berlin at AP4, JRS, Vox-Ton & Hansa Studios, mixed by Gareth Jones and Sascha Ring.
Apotheosis Orchestra & Korneel Bernolet- Rameau & Benda: Pygmalion (2019)
FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/88,2 kHz | Time – 01:08:51 minutes | 1,23 GB | Genre: Classical
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front Cover | © Ramée
With Cupid’s assistance, the sculptor Pygmalion brings his beloved creation to life. This recording treats us to two versions of the celebrated story. Jean-Philippe Rameau’s familiar oneact opera Pigmalion, in which the deus ex machina fulfils Pygmalion’s desires, is followed by Georg Benda’s little-known gem of the same name: a gripping monodrama for spoken voice and orchestra in which we can imagine the sculptor undergoing an inner conflict between desire and reality.
Rising star Korneel Bernolet conducts his Apotheosis Orchestra and a group of young vocal partners: the Canadian haute-contre Philippe Gagné sings the passionate Pigmalion in Rameau’s opéra-ballet, alongside Lieselot De Wilde as his wife Céphise and Caroline Weynants as the divine Amour. Morgane Heyse performs the role of the enchanted Statue in both versions. German bass-baritone Norman D. Patzke makes his debut as voice actor for Benda’s monodrama.

Following the release of the award-winning “Sugarloaf Mountain: An Appalachian Gathering”, Jeannette Sorrell and Apollo’s Fire present “Christmas on Sugarloaf Mountain”. In this celebration of the American immigrant experience, fiddlers, medieval harp, hammered dulcimer, bagpipes and singers join with children’s voices to evoke the Celtic roots of an Appalachian Christmas. From Christmas Eve in medieval Scotland to folk carols and shape-note hymns at a toe-tapping Christmas gathering in Virginia, Apollo’s Fire follows the journeys of the Irish and Scottish settlers who bravely crossed the Atlantic, settled in the mountains and welcomed Christmas with love, singing, dancing and prayer.

Apollo Chamber Players – With Malice Toward None (2021)
FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/96 kHz | Time – 01:10:36 minutes | 1,33 GB | Genre: Classical
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front Cover | © Azica Records
Anchored in an optimistic synthesis of classical, folk, rock and electronic music, “With Malice Toward None” elevates the idea of what it means to be human in the 21st century. Pamela Z artfully deconstructs her folk rock heroes while paying homage to youthful nostalgia and childhood songcraft, while Christopher Theofanidis and Mark Wingate partner to craft a jaggedly ethereal adaptation of poet Samuel Beckett’s haunting final masterpiece.
Apocryphos, Kammarheit, Atrium Carceri – Echo (2016)
FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/44,1 kHz | Time – 54:16 minutes | 489 MB | Genre: Electronic, Ambient
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front Cover | © Cryo Chamber
A collaboration between Apocryphos, Atrium Carceri and long-standing dark ambient one man elite squad Kammarheit? That’s crazy talk! Well, of course it isn’t, and Echo is in fact their second effort together, after the impressive Onyx made the rounds a while back. Echo explores mankind’s weakness to self destruction. As nature is cyclical so is man’s will to destroy. Like a Moth drawn to pulsating light, the painful histories of the past echo with terrifying glee.
Apocalyptica – Cell-0 (2020)
FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/44,1 kHz | Time – 53:40 minutes | 619 MB | Genre: Metal
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front Cover | © Silver Lining Music
Back to the front in so many ways, Apocalyptica are proud to announce the release of their 9th studio album Cell-0. Bristling with an epically baroque life and energy, January 10th 2020 is not just the sound of Apocalyptica returning to their expansive instrumental roots, it is the sound of Apocalyptica revisiting their deepest love with a renewed sense of knowledge and passion. The journeys are deeper, the destinations further and the rewards so much richer than anything the exciting, ambitious quartet have ever produced. Produced by the band and mixed by Andrew Scheps, who has worked with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lana Del Rey, Metallica and Black Sabbath, Cell-0 sees the band soaring into ethereal space on “Ashes Of The Modern World” while diving head-first into aggressive thrash ‘cello-riffery’ during “En Route To Mayhem”. At once a smorgasbord, symphony and crushing metallic masterpiece, Cell-0 shows a band at the very peak of its unique and magical compositional powers.
