Guided by Voices’ Robert Pollard has reimagined and combined his two out-of-print 2007 albums into a new release, Our Gaze, set to arrive May 20 via Rockathon Records.
The new project pulls songs from the two LPs Pollard released on Oct. 9, 2007: Standard Gargoyle Decisions and Coast to Coast Carpet of Love (both albums were originally issued by Merge Records). Though both albums are still available digitally, they’ve been out-of-print in physical formats for a while now, which is why Pollard decided to winnow the combined track list down to 15 songs and release them as Our Gaze.
Reinoud Van Mechelen & A Nocte Temporis – Oh, ma belle brunette (2022)

The term ‘brunette’ refers not only to a young woman with brown hair, but also to a musical form that was highly fashionable from the late seventeenth century to the early eighteenth. The genre evolved from the air de cour, extremely popular in France since the beginning of the seventeenth century. The compositional process, however, remained very similar: to write a short, tender song, dealing with themes of love or nature, which could be sung alone or accompanied by a harmonic instrument. The late seventeenth century also saw the appearance of an instrument that soon became a favourite of composers and amateur musicians: the German flute, now called the traverso or Baroque flute.
In this new programme, tenor Reinoud van Mechelen, flautist Anna Besson and A nocte temporis present an anthology of airs and brunettes ranging from the most touching song to the heartiest drinking song (air à boire).

When Porridge Radio’s Dana Margolin, one of the most vital new voices in rock, began to consider the themes of her new album, three vivid words began to emerge: joy, fear and endlessness. The artwork of the band’s third full-length, Waterslide, Diving Board, Ladder To The Sky, is a surreal image that evokes the ducks and dives, slippery slopes and existential angst of life in recent times. “To me, the feelings of joy, fear and endlesses coexist together,” says Dana. “You’re never just happy or unhappy.” Following Every Bad’s release in 2020, Margolin was quickly becoming regarded as one of the most magnetic band leaders around. But if Every Bad established Dana’s bravery in laying herself bare, her band’s third record takes that to anthemic new heights. While there are moments of guttural release, she also finds soft power on songs. “I used to think I had to be loud to be heard,” she admits, “but now I’m definitely less afraid of being gentle.”
The band’s first new single, Back To The Radio, sets out their stall, a lurching call to arms that contrasts Dana’s lyrics of panic and closing herself off. This song is just one of example in WDBLTTS that explores something that has long been an important part of Porridge Radio’s process: playfulness. “I think the album needed to have that balance,” Dana explains. Balance: that’s the word the album seems to be eternally striving for – joy, fear and endlessness in harmony but also self-acceptance. Dana is more aware of how she’s creating a persona as her star continues to rise, and how she’s singing personal songs that now belong to other people which gives her purpose. She says, “I wrote these songs for myself, but I think everyone wants to feel like what they’re doing is useful in some way. I’m ready to embrace it all now, whatever happens.
Pond – 9 (Deluxe Edition) (2021/2022)

In Pond’s universe nothing stays still for long. Although no one who heard 2019’s Tasmania could possibly describe its pulsating psych-pop as straight, Pond wanted to try a more spontaneous way of working for their next record.
Taking a leaf out of krautrock outliers Can’s book, at the start of 2020, Pond embarked on a series of totally off-the-cuff jam sessions from which songs and ideas could be pulled out.
Given the pace at which ideas whizz past your head, it makes for a dizzying listen. Opener Song For Agnes explodes out the speakers like an intergalactic rock opera, running a synapse-tingling gauntlet through bubbling synth pop, 80s hair metal and blissed out saxophone before you know what’s hit you. It’s an apposite curtain-raiser for an album that can encompass pounding techno (Human Touch), elastic hipped robofunk (America’s Cup), tripped out motorik (Czech Locomotive) and acres more besides without even stopping for breath.
Piano Duo Nadàn – Brahms: Liebeslieder Waltzes for Piano 4-Hands (2022)

Instrumental arrangements of Brahms at his most unbuttoned and relaxed, including a world premiere recording for this version of the Zigeunerlieder.
The influential critic Eduard Hanslick was shocked by the discovery that ‘Brahms the serious, the taciturn, the North German, the Protestant, the man who detests the world writes waltzes!’ In this regard he underestimated Brahms just as he did Liszt and Wagner, the composers of opera and symphonic poems whom he detested. Brahms always retained a connection with and affection for all forms of amateur music-making, and indeed had been a well-loved conductor of an amateur choral society, of the kind for which the Liebeslieder waltzes were written. The Liebeslieder-Walzer are a brilliant tribute to the musical tradition of the Habsburg capital, that tradition of popular dances that traced back its composed heritage to Schubert and later the Strauss dynasty (Brahms was inordinately fond of Strauss waltzes).

Landscapes it is a look at the soundscapes that make up Pau Codina’s universe (Pau Codina profile), a musician of the now and here, indebted to the great referents of his genre (with Bach as the main inspiration and the interpretation of a Cassadó Suite that continues to be iconic for cellists) but clearly close to the authors and current music as evidenced by the inclusion of a work by composer Joan Magrané, first recorded on a disc, as well as the Sonata composed in 1955 by the recently deceased George Crumb.
Luca Delpriori, Elisa Bognetti, Carlo Mazzoli, Paola Perrucci – Ferrari: Duets for Harp & Piano (2022)
FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/96 kHz | Time – 01:16:36 minutes | 1,24 GB | Genre: Classical
Studio Masters, Official Digital Download | Front Cover | © Dynamic
Giacomo Gotifredo Ferrari studied in Naples before finding esteem in the Parisian musical world of the late 1780s. Fleeing the Revolution he settled in London. His compositions divide equally between vocal and chamber music, but also include two piano concertos. His Four Duets for Piano and Harp reveal clearly the main features of his art: easy melodic grace founded on his studies with Paisiello, high musical quality, formal balance, and a veneration of Haydn and Mozart. Intended for professionals and amateurs alike, slow movements are expressive and rondos full of vigor. In this recording original instruments are used to do full justice to the period timbre of Ferrari’s dialogues between fortepiano and harp.

Singles is a greatest hits album by English rock band New Order. It was released on 3 October 2005 by London Records. The two-disc compilation includes the band’s singles released between 1981 and 2005. Unlike the CD version of earlier singles compilation Substance 1987, the B-sides are not included. While Substance 1987 aimed to showcase New Order’s 12-inch singles, Singles instead features mostly seven-inch versions, some of which are rare and differ from the album versions.
The album includes three early singles that have never appeared on CD in their original form: “Ceremony”, “Everything’s Gone Green” and “Temptation”. Additionally, an edit of the “Rough mix” of the song “Confusion” was created exclusively for this compilation. One song, “Turn”, was released on this album in a new edited form, despite never being a single.
An updated edition of Singles was released on 9 September 2016, which adds “I’ll Stay with You” from the 2013 album Lost Sirens and replaces the versions of “1963”, “Run 2”, “Bizarre Love Triangle”, “True Faith”, “Spooky”, “Confusion”, and “The Perfect Kiss”. The reissue was remastered by Frank Arkwright, and fixes the compression issues prevalent on the 2005 version…

The figure of Ferdinand Ries (1784–1838) enjoys a peripheral familiarity among music-lovers as the friend and amanuensis of Beethoven. A bond had formed when Ries’s father Franz taught Beethoven in Bonn. While Beethoven doubtless cast his eye over his friend and student’s pieces from time to time, he sent Ries to his own teacher Johann Albrechtsberger for lessons in composition.
Kyoichiro Kori, Atsuko Kaminaga – Étincelle (2022)
FLAC (tracks) 24 bit/96 kHz | Time – 58:17 minutes | 847 MB | Genre: Classical

This is the latest album by Kyoichiro Kori, a trombone player who is active in the Siena Wind Orchestra. Includes Spark’s masterpiece “Trombone Concerto”, Stravinsky’s “Pulcinella Suite” played on the trombone, and “Venice Carnival” famous for trumpet. It is an ambitious work to challenge difficult songs that require a considerable amount of skill. A profound sound that conveys the spirit of Kyoichiro Gun. I also listen to the beautiful piano of Atsuko Kaminaga, who supports her wonderfully.

Debussy reinvented the language of music, inspired by Nature and music from East Asia. Following in his footsteps, Joanna Goodale creates her own music blending the piano with gongs and singing bowls. The program will include her compositions and works by Debussy on the theme of water.
«Music is a free art, a springing art, an open-air art, an art commensurate with the elements, the wind, the sky, and the sea!» Claude Debussy.
